The United Kingdom

I grew up in KwaZulu-Natal. Then Natal - 'the last outpost'. The province of South Africa that said No to independence. Souties with one foot in the UK, one foot in Natal and something hanging in the salty sea. I now live in London. My heart is scattered over the world. As was Britain. Positive legacy of believing in coming together. Ending Slavery. Building infrastructure. Education. The Enlightenment. The Industrial Revolution. Negative of the how and why. Colonialism. Superiority. Class. Hierarchy. Divide and rule. Cultural Imperialism. Believing in a true United. Fighting the idea of Kingdom. Unravelling a complicated past. Finding a future.

52% of White South Africans voted for a Republic in 1960
76% of Natal voted against
50% of the Cape Province
76% of the Orange Free State were for
56% of the Transvaal were for
62% of the South-West Africa were for
